NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/29/2010

Morning Report: Best session of the trip! Isn't that how you like
it all to end :) Hit the water early at PdP with Walter and his friend.
About an hour and a half later a few of the local boys paddled out.
Waves were a clean 3-7 foot and I was hitting the bigger sets with ease
today. Post Session Grinds: Coffee and a whopper sized jamon, huevo y queso
sandwich.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/28/2010

Morning Report: Did not surf today - very small - saving myself for
tomorrow, my last full day in PR. There is some surf on the north
coast but I passed on making the drive since the swell is short period
and rather weak, and the wind will be on it quickly.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/27/2010

Morning Report: PdP was the call this morning with nice glassy waves
larger than expected. Looked like maybe 3 feet or so while I was
waxing up the board and sipping my coffee. Turned out to be a solid
4 to 6 with frequent larger clean-up sets. Rode the waves for about 2
hours before the wind was on it. Started out solo and topped off with
about 6 of the local boys. Caught a memorable right and left. Not bad.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/26/2010

Morning Report: Wave size in the West dropped off quite a bit from yesterday
as the swell turned more NE. Waves at Maria's appeared to be a consistent
5 to 8 ' with some 10' sets. My friend Edwin caught a couple of very nice ones
at Maria's Point. No bragging rights for me today - I caught one wave, which
was fun and long. Very, very crowded. Counted about 30 people on the point.

Headed to the Platano Loco for dinner last night. Turns out it is only open on Thu thru
Sunday, so we tried out the Doña Fela which turned out to be very good. Mi esposa
comió shrimp with criollo sauce and I had garlic chillo entero. Rice and beans and tostones
were also tasty. As was the pitcher of home grown sangria.

Topped off the night visiting Bill Rosenblatt and his wife at their very pleasant casita.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/25/2010

Morning Report: Very big swell and peaking over night and tomorrow.
Did not surf today - tomorrow is also doubtful. From famine to feast!
Rest of the way looks promising. Today the Maria's to Tres Palmas
stretch was going off. Crashboat was reported to be near flat because
of the north swell.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/22/2010

Morning Report: Waves were a clean 3 foot during the first couple of
hours with some bigger ones rolling through. Strong current until
the last half hour. Then all 5 of us caught our last one in. LOL.
Grabbed a coffee to watch the clear waters roll in without organization.
Plenty of surf for next week starting on Monday. May take a trip to the
north coast tomorrow since I have not been there yet.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/18/2010

Morning Report: Solo session today in very clear waters and minimal
current at PdP with waves in the 3-4' ranges for the bigger sets
on the second reef and 2-3' on the inside reef. Sunshine, no wind,
ultra glassy meant being able to see all the coral and rock formations.
Simply beautiful and peaceful. Post-session visited with a friend for
coffee and talking story. When I drove by PdP upon leaving there was
one person out in still calm waters.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/17/2010

Morning Report: Met up with Bob Savidge early this morning ISO surf.
Next rendeveauz point was with Edwin - things were working in the
neighborhood so no trip to the north coast was needed. Turns out it
was smaller up there anyway according to one of the local boys
that ventured up there.

Winds were clean this a.m., finally!!! Edwin, Walter, Bob and I shared
waves for the next two hours, but to be perfectly candid, Edwin and
Walter were all over it. Bob and I were drained by the side current and
thanks to Edwin and Walter for giveing me several waves. Bob was less
fortunate - the break was a bit to critical for him so he didn't catch
any. Even thought it will likely be smaller than today's 3-4' he will
probably opt for some of the softer spots around Rincon. More of the
local crew hit the water after 9:30am, by which I was already toast and
caught a rare right in. Some post surf treats at my favorite local
panaderia. Edwin also showed us an excellent platano restaurant.

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/16/2010

Morning Report: Caught some small ones at Maria's this morning.
The 2nd Rock really wasnt' working so caught some inside there
and down towards the main break. Bob Savidge flagged me just before
I paddled out and joined me a few minutes later. Looks like we each
shagged a few. The cuties from the south of Brazil joined us mid-session.
Forecast for next 7 days looks dismal :(

NW PR Report and Forecast of 1/13/2010

Morning Report: Checked out several spots up and down the
coast, grabbed a coffee, talked to a camera man shooting some
pics at Little Teapeuo whle watching TdlR. Then paddled out to
TdlR, joining a Island shape rider and another guy who had been
hanging way on the outside. Can't blame him being out there solo
in wave breaking 6-10'.Two shortboarders joined us shortly later.

I hung on the southside peak while the others worked on the main
peak, everyone scoring their share. I probably only caught one or
so in my first hour and then picked up the tempo big time. My trip
wave looked to be small at around 6 foot or so but doubled in size
during the takeoff (ha ha, maybe only to 10') as I free fell the first
6 feet before the afterburners kicked-in, turned and rocketed into a
section that hurled over me.

After the Island style board broke the other guys all paddled in and I
played it easy for the next half hour except for the time being caught
on the inside and was worked over really well. Caught a nice senorita
wave for my last one and the paddle in.
