CRNW Forecast of 2017-0616, Fri (The Day Before The Day Before)

Monday thru Wednesday we will likely have some mixed swell with the dominant mid-period swell from the S-SW and a smaller-sized short-period wind swell from the W. This could make for some  bumpier looking lines--be prepared for some sections to fold over unexpectedly. These effects should be less noticable Thu thru Sat.

North Costa Rica Forecast effective Friday afternoon.

Forecast Outlook
SAT-SUN: Modest SSW swell maintains waist-shoulder high surf on Saturday with some
sets approaching head high at standouts. Wave heights steadily trend up Sunday with
shoulder high to overhead surf building through the morning, becoming well overhead+
through the afternoon.

MONDAY: Solid S/SSW swell provides plenty of head high to well overhead surf with
focal points hitting the double overhead range on sets.

NOTE: It does look like there will be some shorter period, localized windswell running
the next several days. That will likely have an adverse effect on surf quality in some
areas, creating a bit more lump/texture to the surf.

SHORT TERM FORECAST (through Sunday, June 18th)

Swell/Surf: The South Pacific has fired back up with three separate, respectable
storms across the basin, from near New Zealand, to offshore of Chile. As a result,
a series of good swells ranging from SW to South are stacking up for Central America.

Old SSW swell (220-210) lingers on Saturday as a new SSW (200-190°) swell joins in
later in the day. That maintains modest surf in the waist-shoulder high range at best
spots. Wave heights trend up steadily on Sunday with surf in the head high to well
overhead range. Look for larger sets to show at focal points later Sunday.

Wind/Weather: Most areas along the Costa Rican coastline see light/variable winds in
the mornings the next few days. Northern C.R. likely seeing light onshore flow. All
areas see light to locally moderate onshore flow in the afternoons.

No significant tropical flare ups expected the next few days, however, isolated
showers/thunderstorms are likely, as it is the tropics. Keep in mind, those passing
or nearby showers and thunderstorms can temporarily affect/change local wind conditions.

EXTENDED FORECAST (Monday, June 19th, and beyond)

Swell/Surf: Surf stays elevated through mid next week with a blend of S/SSW swell
and SW swell. Many spots will be seeing at least head-overhead surf through Thursday,
while occasional double overhead+ waves will show for select magnets. This run will
gradually back down Friday and the following weekend (24th-25th).

Beyond that, there's smaller, but still fun size, S hemi swell likely for the last
few days of June through early July as long range charts continue to show new storms
flaring up across the SPAC basin. Stay tuned.
