CR NW Forecast of Mon, 2014-0519p

"There appears to be a high probability for surf," he said while fetching another cup of  café con leche. Even for our arrival date of May 31st afternoon and the following days.

Monday evening forecast

SHORT TERM FORECAST (Through Thursday, May 22nd)
Highlights:  Southern hemi swell slowly eases through the first half of the week.

South Pacific Swell: Southern hemi swell will gradually fade in size as it shifts to SSW (210-200) on Tuesday. Still plenty of head high to overhead waves for exposures then. The trend towards decreasing size continues through the middle of the week for mainly shoulder-head+ high surf on Wednesday. Those sizes hold on Thursday as a reinforcing pulse of SSW swell joins in.

Wind/Weather: Costa Rica will see primarily a diurnal wind pattern through most of the week. Look for light/variable to locally light offshore wind for the early mornings, before a moderate S/SW seabreeze develops over the morning hours and into each afternoon. The Nicoya Peninsula will see offshore flow in the mornings; light to moderate in some areas, strongest toward the Nica border where winds are due to stay offshore through most of the day, while spots further south see a light+moderate seabreeze develops in the afternoons.

EXTENDED FORECAST (Friday, May 23rd and beyond)
Highlights: Steady series of southern hemi swells rolls in from the second half of this week through most of the remainder of the month.

South Pacific Swell:  Fresh round of SW-SSW (220-205) Southern Hemi swell starts to fill in on Friday,  then peaks Saturday for surf running head high to 1-2' overhead at good exposures. Slow fading but still consistent fun waves through the end of the weekend.

Next up, storm activity brewing in the east SPAC now is looking good for another run of long-period SW groundswell that will start to fill in next Monday, 26th, then be topping out around the 27th-28th with more overhead surf. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this still developing storm/swell system.
