CRNW Forecast of Wed, 2014-0528p

The long-range forecast and the short-range which is now in our surfing window of arrival.

Wednesday evening update

SHORT TERM FORECAST (Through Sunday, May 31st)
Highlights:  SW swell eases into the second half of the week, fresh Southern Hemi shows for the weekend.

South Pacific Swell:  A storm that tracked away from New Zealand cranked out the solid SW (220-210) groundswell which has been rolling in this week. That swell continues into Thursday for easily overhead waves at many exposed spots. Friday will be fading as the swell is passed its peak then, but there will still be plenty of head high to overhead surf. Waves hold around the head high mark for Saturday as old SW swell continues to wind down and a new, very broad range blend of  SW-SSW (220-190) Southern Hemis gradually join in. That swell mix fills in a bit more for Sunday.

Wind/Weather: Costa Rica will see primarily a diurnal wind pattern Thursday, with light/variable to locally light offshore wind for the early mornings, before a moderate S/SW seabreeze develops over the morning hours and into each afternoon. The Nicoya Peninsula will see offshore flow in the mornings; light to moderate in some areas, strongest toward the Nica border where offshores hang on for most of the day, while other areas see a light+moderate seabreeze in the afternoons. Rising SSE winds due for the Nicoya Peninsula by Friday afternoon and on Saturday, as areas further south maintain the diurnal pattern. Stay tuned.

EXTENDED FORECAST (Monday, June 2nd and beyond)
Highlights: More Southern Hemi moves in by next week.

South Pacific Swell:  Southern Hemi swell becomes more southerly, (205-190) going into next week thanks to storm activity off South America. The healthy, long-period swell mix steadily fills into exposures on Monday, June 2nd, then maxes out on Tuesday/Wednesday with more easily overhead+ surf at lots of spots and double overhead++ stuff for the better breaks. Those waves taper off into the second half of the upcoming week. Next solid round of Southern Hemi swell scheduled to peak around the 9th-10th of June. Stay tuned for the latest updates on that storm/swell system as it develops.

The folks at Solspot.com have moderately increased their forecast for the upcoming 5 days:
