CRNW Forecast and Report, Sat, 2015-0321

Report to Follow:  It may be a repeat of yesterday unless the on-shore winds slow down.

P.S. Around 4:11p, a nice 5-wave set broke at the Outer Wash. Sets were timed at 7 minute intervals.

Tide still coming in from a -1.5, onshores wind hit at 10a. Will need to assess  soon. Looking weak.

See pics below the table.

CRNW Forecast and Report, Fri, 2015-0320 afternoon

Report to Follow:

No water flowing for several hours this morning due to water main pump break in the nearby town. All flowing now!

Looks like a-ok surf the remaining days of the trip.

Update: Did not surf. Convergence of small swell, ultra low & high tides and onshore winds beginning around 11am. Need those Papagayos back!

CRNW Forecast and Report, Thu, 2015-0319 afternoon

Report to Follow.  On shore winds and spring tides just past noon, when it was time to paddle out, making it a little sloppy today. Water was warmer. Lots of water currents moving around. Spent about as much energy in 1.5 hours as yesterday's 3-hr session and only 10 percent as many rides. Seemed like a mix of 6 sec, 9 sec and 14 sec swells. Still fun to get wet :) And David and I did catch some good ones.

A chap on a bodyboard appeared late in the session... we pointed out some of the rock features and currents. He followed me in about 10 minutes later after I caught my last wave of the day. "Johnny Utah" is from Nebraska, no leash and wearing Cressi snorkling swim fins. He could have been in a heap of trouble!

CRNW Forecast and Report, Wed, 2015-0318 afternoon

Today's Report: Light offshores, the Wash breaking in the 4-6 ft range with maybe some plus set take-offs. semi-glassy conditions initially at 10am turning to smooth faces for the last 2 hrs and then the on-shores started as I paddled back out to the line-up for what would be my last wave after 3 hrs of waveriding. Fun stuff! The waves during the last 60 minutes were kicking some punch.

CRNW Forecast and Report, Tue, 2015-0317 noon

Was scared sh*tless this morning before paddling out. The two legged creature with an abnormal waveriding vehicle walked across my view of the ocean as I started gearing up. The waveriding device was one of those over-sized things, about 9 ft x 30 in x 6 in., plus a mechanism for holding in one's hands to propel the device forward. Then the creature put the device down, turned around and looked at me. It peered out upon the ocean as if attempting to determine the best method to enter the ocean. Then it would look back at me with that look that made me feel like the hunted. I dithered a good extra 5 minutes or so hoping the creature would find me of little interest and move on.

It was not to happen so I made my move over some shallow reef instead of the deeper channel. No looking back... did not want the creature to stalk me. After reaching The Wash area I looked back shoreward and saw the creature way inside but not attempting to paddle out. Finally the rest of the creatures family pack showed up and they just frolicked in the way inside. Then after a half hour they disappeared.

Whew, no apparent threat by the Creature Masses at this time!

Swell filled-in overnight. Nothing huge but fun 3-5 ft with some 6 ft drops at the Rock Southside. I caught one nice one at Lil Ala Moana. Tons of waves for two hours. Party cloudy skies seem to be the patter the past few days after clear blues. Papagayos alternated between strong and light, never knowing which would be the case when catching and riding a wave. Water stayed generally cooler this morning and the winds made it seem even chillier. Really likeing the Bonzer at this spot.

Shared coffee and light ocean viewing with Griz and Rick before we all ate breakfast and shortly thereafter, at 815a, the shoved off to the airport. Will miss them!!! Ana will miss Rick!!!

Effective Monday afternoon

SHORT TERM FORECAST (through Friday, March 20th):
Highlights: Fun size SSW swell.

South Pacific Swell: A fresh round of long-period S-SSW (205-180) swell rises through Tuesday then peaks on Wednesday/Thursday. Meanwhile, former Cyclone Pam pushed out a very 'westerly' pulse of WSW swell (270-255) that will blend in with it.

After all is said and done, this week will see surf mainly range from chest high 1-2' overhead at good exposures. Standout spots will produce occasional larger sets, especially Wed/Thurs when the southern hemi swell is strongest.

EXTENDED FORECAST (Saturday, March 21st, and beyond):
Highlights: Plenty of Southern hemi swell's due to roll in through the end of the month. Steeply angled NW pulses continue to show for exposed areas.

South Pacific Swell: Saturday through Monday (the 23rd) will see a blend of old/fading South swell and WSW swell, along with some new/modest scale SSW swell (205-185). That will maintain fun zone surf in the waist-shoulder-head high zone, while standout breaks go a little overhead on sets.

Beyond that, we could see a couple pretty solid Southern hemi swell's to close out the month as the SPAC is due to really flare up this week. New SSW-South swell (200-180) lines up for the 24th-26th, which could be followed up by a tropically influenced SSW swell (220-200) over the 26th-31st. More details later this week, once we see these storms actually develop.

CRNW Report of Mon, 2015-0316p

David, Rick and I paddled out around 2p for a last session with Rick... Griz was riding another wave down at Playa Pilsen. Junky small surf at a low tide, much lower than we normally surf and for good reason... it was very shallow and becomes out of control in larger waves. The new swell never surfaced although at sundown was showing some potential.

David had  a terrible experience with sidebites on the Xylem, complementing his 4.5 inch center fin. Maybe too much toe-in. He claims it paddles much more slowly.

Forecasts expected to resume again tomorrow.

CRNW Forecast & Rpt of Sun, 2015-0315 afternoon

This morning's report: Griz walked down the beach for some beach break which he said was a lot of fun. The remaining three of us paddled out to the Rock area and Lil Alamoana for some inconsistent but fun little ones, 2-4", in beautiful water conditions.

There may be some hope for the Odd Couple in the Other Room, Griz and Rick, with the model pushing up the swell arrival for between 6am and noon. The other model lower down is not as hopeful.
